It’s Monster World Monday! Known as Wonder Boy V: Monster World III, and Monster World IV respectively in Japan, Wonder Boy in Monster World and Monster World IV can be played on original hardware, and also the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive Mini!
The original versions of these two Westone Bit Entertainment classics can also be found on the Xbox 360 (on Xbox Live Arcade), and also on the PS3 (on the PlayStation Network) in the title ‘Sega Vintage Collection: Monster World’ (under the Sega Ages Online moniker).
Additionally, the games were also released for the PlayStation 2 in Japan on the Sega Ages 2500 Series Vol. 29: Monster World Complete Collection, and on the Nintendo Wii as Virtual Console titles.
Most recently, the two games appeared on the Sega Genesis and Mega Drive Mini consoles. (The Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, and Genesis / MD Mini versions of Monster IV contain the English language version, which was released to markets outside of Japan first on the Wii).
Next year will also see a remake of Monster World IV, titled “Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World”, which looks to retain the same classic gameplay and world, with a fresh, new, modern look!
Any Monster World fans out there? What’s your favorite title in the series?
